Basic Tips for Playing Dust 514 in PS3

General tips

    Strafing:

Weaving back and forth or side to side can be extremely useful for putting off enemy aim. When hacking a console, also, constantly moving slightly left and right can mean the difference between an enemy having all the time in the world to line up a headshot and surviving the hack and killing the enemy.

    Hacking:

Hold down the hack button, and do not move too far from the hacking console! If you know someone's creeping up on you, stop hacking and try to kill him/her UNLESS you know you can finish the hack even if you start getting shot at.

    Being revived:

This requires patience and good awareness. Know where you've died, know how you've died, know where your team is. Keep eyes on the top of your screen, which indicates the presence of nearby medics. Watch the overview map (hit X on the death report to access this): close triages will be denoted by moving nanite injector symbols on the map.

    Dodging murder taxis:

Depending on the situation, there are numerous ways to face an LAV which is about to run you over. Look for terrain which can destabilise the driver. Treat the LAV as a bull; stay still (or feint towards one side) until the last moment and dive to a side.

    Aiming down sights:

Accuracy is so greatly improved by aiming down your sights that 90% of your ammunition should be spent firing when aiming. Even at close range, hip fire can be less efficient if the enemy is running straight at you. Exceptions include weapons like the mass driver, and shotgun.

Being Revived

Move after revival! Get into cover ASAP; then Understand the situation with a clear head.

Power Sliding: Note that if you tilt the left analog stick (movement) or WASD as you're being revived, as soon as you're on your feet again you're 'sliding' towards that direction. This allows you to escape direct fire very quickly as soon as you've been revived.

    Call for Help:

Pressing X after you're shot down allows you to call for help, bringing up a blinking indicator on any mercenaries with a nanite injector. Be patient after you call for help; you might just save that suit you just got shot down with. Sometimes you may not be able to be revived, however, if the circumstances of your death involved a headshot/explosives.

Assisting a HAV (Tank)

When providing support in a HAV as a small turret gunner:

    Assess the turret:

Usually an experienced vehicle driver/gunner will know what turret they're using just be looking at its shape. If you can't tell, fire a few bullets to see what projectiles the turret launchers. DO NOT fire indiscriminately; the noise attracts unwanted attention. Only shoot when you see enemies.

    Defense:

If you spot enemy with AV weapons (Swarm Launcher, Heavy with a Forge Gun, etc), warn the driver, and, if you can't hit them with your turret, hop out and go after them. Do not stray too far from the tank.

    Repair:

If you have a Repair Tool, use it when you notice the HAV's shields are down and it's taking damage to armor. A good tank driver will have an armor repairer, so when you notice armor stops regenerating, that's when you hop out and begin repairing it. Stay close to the tank and if it starts moving, get back in.

    Hack installations:

If the area is clear and you're stopped near an Installation, hop out and Hack it. Make sure the driver doesn't intend to destroy it first.

    Report threats:

If you notice the presence of other HAVs, Swarm Launchers, Forge Guns, or AV Grenades, notify the driver and attempt to relay the position of the threats.
